March Motivation – Week 4

Well, this is it. It’s the end. March is nearly over. Winter is gone. It’s officially spring (at least, here anyway. I heard some people got snow over the weekend? What’s up with that?)

Also, Fireside Magazine’s kickstarter is nearing to a close. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you ought to. I have last year’s magazine, and it’s really, really good. (I’ve also pledged for next year’s, too. And you should consider doing so yourself. It’s worth it, I promise.)

Anyway, let’s take a look at March:

  • Print off the first part of Cloudy with a Chance of Satan. Printed!
  • Read said first part of Cloudy (with optional note-taking). Yeah, this didn’t get done.
  • Write 10k on Cloudy. Hadn’t even picked up a pen.
  • Stretch Goal: Finish Cloudy. Hahaha, no.
  • Write all posts for the Ferret Blog that I’m responsible for through April 30th. I wrote two. Posted one already. The second will be scheduled and ready to go by lunch today. And hopefully maybe a draft of the third. :/ But they’ll be done before they’re due. I’ll make sure of that.
  • Write the first draft of the Ferret Anthology story (the one that I never quite was able to do last month). I’m not even sure where I put this draft anymore.
  • Stretch Goal: Write 10k on the Beacon Hills Reboot Part Two. It’s my CampNano, so it’ll be… getting done? I hope. (Dear lord, do I hope.)
  • Edit and send back the Teen Wolf fic I’m betaing. I actually did get this done! The first part of it, anyway. She didn’t send me the second half until a week or so ago, and I’ve yet to see the last half. But she’s got the first half! Yay!
  • Finish reading A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones, awww yisssss). On page 568 of 924. (Didn’t even get a chance to look at the book this weekend.)
  • Finish that X-Men commission you promised you’d do. I really, really need to get this done.
  • Finish that tattoo design commission you also promised to do. This two.
  • Stretch Goal: Draw the Nuggetsune comics for Barenaked Critic. I wanted to get this done. I even have a first draft of it up.
  • Clean the kitchen. Like, mop and bucket and industrial sized trash bags sort of clean. Thanks to me being sick, it’s now looking worse than ever. Uuugh.
  • Stretch Goal: Organize the art closet. I think this is going to be an “End of Year” goal at this point.

Absolutely pitiful. :/ But I have managed to get a lot of things done this month. Maybe most of them weren’t on the original list, but I still accomplished a lot, I think, looking back. I managed to stay employed. I got (mostly) back in the habit of working out. I got sick and healthy again! (ugh, colds.) I got the tires changed on my car, and drove down to Dallas to see Welcome to Night Vale. I finally ate at the Cheesecake Factory (a bucket list item)! I updated my Tumblr blog, and I made plans to go to SoCal this summer (more on that later).

So yeah, I think in retrospect I did manage to get a lot done. Just… most of them not writing related. (Or, any of them writing related, to be honest).

I’ll do better next month.

Speaking of next month, I have actually signed up for the April’s WriteMotivation! Here’s my new goals, with a few extras:

  • Write The Beacon Hills Reboot: Part Two. Considering it’s also my Camp NaNo, hopefully I can get this done!
  • Finish, Edit, and Post two stories. I have one already betaed, I just need to look through the edits and fix the errors on it. The other story is already started, I just need to finish it and send it off to the beta (in plenty of time for me to get it back, edit it again, and then post it before the month is up.) I should be able to do this.
  • Read two books. Since I’m halfway through Storm of Swords, I’ll probably finish that one. And then read something short. Like Carrie or maybe that middle-grade book I picked up because I liked the smiley face on it.

And, as always, I have a few stretch goals for myself. (A bit shorter than March’s, because I am slowly but surely learning how to not bite off more than I can chew.)

  • Finish at least one piece of art you had promised you’d do. I’m thinking I should probably do the X-men one first. :/
  • Clean the kitchen. Because it really, really needs to be done.
  • Watch Veronica Mars. I have the first disk, and have a play date set up to watch them with The Barenaked Critic! So excited!

I think six goals instead of fourteen are much more manageable. Maybe. Hopefully.

See you all in April!

March Motivation – Week 3 1/2

This is a bit late. I was really sick earlier this week, and I’m still playing catch up, especially at work. And as much as I lament about not being productive, sometimes I just need to step back and realize that getting healthy is productive.

Anyway, this is my damage. I’m marking off the stuff that I KNOW I won’t be able to complete this month (mostly so I don’t have to keep looking at it.):

  • Print off the first part of Cloudy with a Chance of Satan. Printed!
  • Read said first part of Cloudy (with optional note-taking)Yeah, I don’ think I’m going to work on this any more. Well, not in March anyway. I’m looking at picking this back up in May. :/ (SO I’M GOING TO MARK IT OFF.)
  • Write 10k on Cloudy. I’ll look at it again in May.
  • Stretch Goal: Finish Cloudy. Noooope.
  • Write all posts for the Ferret Blog that I’m responsible for through April 30th. One post is already up, and one more is drafted. (Okay, scribbled out on paper.) Still have 4 more to do, and I have to get them all scheduled out an online. So… SORT OF?
  • Write the first draft of the Ferret Anthology story (the one that I never quite was able to do last month). Uugh I still need to look at this.
  • Stretch Goal: Write 10k on the Beacon Hills Reboot Part Two. It’s my Camp Nano! 😀
  • Edit and send back the Teen Wolf fic I’m betaing. HAHAHAHAHA done. The first part anyway. I’ve read the second part, BUT IN MY DEFENSE, SHE DIDN’T SEND THAT TO ME UNTIL LAST SUNDAY, so yeah. I’m going to mark this off.
  • Finish reading A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones, awww yisssss). On page 568 of 924.
  • Finish that X-Men commission you promised you’d do. Oooh my godddd I haven’t even opened my sketch book. 😦
  • Finish that tattoo design commission you also promised to doI’M SO SORRY I AM A BAD PERSON (this is going to be pushed off until next month.)
  • Stretch Goal: Draw the Nuggetsune comics for Barenaked CriticI… have the first draft? I’ll work on it. Eventually.
  • Clean the kitchen. Like, mop and bucket and industrial sized trash bags sort of clean. It’s… um. Cleaner? A bit. Just a bit.
  • Stretch Goal: Organize the art closet. This is soooo not going to happen this month.

My list looks… a little better. Sort of. Even though most of those things I marked off weren’t really completed, just… put on hiatus so I don’t have to think about them right now. :/

Anyway, how are the rest of you faring?

March Motivation – Week 2

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! I have a post up at the RRFS today (also filling part of one of my things to do this month, so DOUBLE YAY!)

  • Print off the first part of Cloudy with a Chance of Satan. Printed!
  • Read said first part of Cloudy (with optional note-taking). On page 40 of 100. I really need to finish this in the next few days
  • Write 10k on Cloudy. Not done reading it yet.
  • Stretch Goal: Finish Cloudy. (Yeah, we’ll see if I get anywhere near this.) See above.
  • Write all posts for the Ferret Blog that I’m responsible for through April 30th. I have one post up! Only 5 more to go!.
  • Write the first draft of the Ferret Anthology story (the one that I never quite was able to do last month). I’ll look at this… later. Like, Friday later.
  • Stretch Goal: Write 10k on the Beacon Hills Reboot Part Two. I’ve signed up for Camp Nano. I don’t think I’m going to get to this until next month, so I’m marking off this goal now. IT COUNTS. SIGNING UP FOR CAMP NANO COUNTS. *cuddles her denial*
  • Edit and send back the Teen Wolf fic I’m betaing. Several pages in. Hopefully will finish today and send back to author.
  • Finish reading A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones, awww yisssss). On page 401 of 924.
  • Finish that X-Men commission you promised you’d do. Stiiiiiill haven’t started.
  • Finish that tattoo design commission you also promised to do. Nooooope. Will get to that next week.
  • Stretch Goal: Draw the Nuggetsune comics for Barenaked Critic. I have a first draft ready! 😀 Huzzah
  • Clean the kitchen. Like, mop and bucket and industrial sized trash bags sort of clean. Someone, please send a flame thrower.
  • Stretch Goal: Organize the art closet. My cat as turned my closet into her personal jungle gym…

I’ve gotten started on a lot of these projects, but man, I need to concentrate on just sitting down and finishing one. I need to mark more of these off.

Maybe I should take a look at the kitchen first. *dons hazmat suit* Wish me luck.

To the Hot Topless Jogger Who Passed By Me the Other Day

It’s spring, and I know that you want to get outdoors and play. I don’t blame you–that’s why I’m out here, too. The sun is shining and it’s finally warm enough to walk–or jog, in your case. Why wouldn’t we want to get outside after being cooped up all winter?

You were running down my path, opposite my direction, and you weren’t wearing a shirt. In fact, you weren’t wearing much other than track shorts, tennis shoes and those frankly ridiculous ray-bans. But you were pretty hot (in more ways than one!), and that was definitely distracting. You must do a lot of pushups, is all I’m saying. If I hadn’t been concentrating on not tripping over anything or falling over from “omg why did I ever think exercise was a good idea I just want to go hoooome,” I might have said something inappropriate about your biceps. Because yowza.

I wanted to bury my fingers in your chest hair.

So anyway, this note is for you, Hot Topless Jogger. I saw you running outside the other day. If you noticed me, you didn’t make any acknowledgment of it–but that’s okay. I saw you. And you were hot.

Hope to see you again!

March Motivation(-ish) Week 1 Recap

Hooooo boy. A week into March and I’m friggin’ exhausted. I worked all this weekend and last, so I haven’t really gotten a lot done. Also, I haven’t really gotten a lot of sleep. And I’d say that “I at least got money,” but really, is minimum wage even money? Because it sure doesn’t feel like it. ($80. That’s what I earned. Friggin’ $80…)

Anyway, here’s my damage so far:

  • Print off the first part of Cloudy with a Chance of Satan. Printed!
  • Read said first part of Cloudy (with optional note-taking). Reading it right now. On page 20 of 100. Good news is, it still makes me laugh. Bad news is, I need to rewrite nearly all of it.
Haaaaaven’t even started yet.
  • Write the first draft of the Ferret Anthology story (the one that I never quite was able to do last month). Err… oops. Haven’t done this either.
  • Stretch Goal: Write 10k on the Beacon Hills Reboot Part Two. I’ve signed up for Camp Nano for April with this story slotted as my novel. Um, isn’t that progress?
  • Edit and send back the Teen Wolf fic I’m betaing. I read it? Does… that count? 😛
  • Finish reading A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones, awww yisssss). On page 293 of 924.
  • Finish that X-Men commission you promised you’d do. Yikes. Haven’t even started. I’LL GET RIGHT ON THAT.
  • Finish that tattoo design commission you also promised to do. I have a bunch of examples and references saved and/or printed out.
  • Stretch Goal: Draw the Nuggetsune comics for Barenaked Critic. Hahahaha… yeah I’ll get to this eventually.
  • Clean the kitchen. Like, mop and bucket and industrial sized trash bags sort of clean. I… ran the dishwasher?
  • Stretch Goal: Organize the art closet. Does adding to it count?

Well… I crossed off ONE thing. Yay?

Sometimes Dreams are Awesome. And Sometimes They Suck

Sometimes dreams just suck, okay? I don’t mean the goals or aspirations sort of dream–those, no matter how silly or insignificant they may seem to other people, are always good (or at least I think so). No, I’m talking about the literally brain-drama that happens when you sleep.

Usually, my brain dramas are pretty cool. Very action-thriller-spy-movie esque. They’re entertaining, to say the least.

But lately I’ve been having these… ordinary dreams. Dreams that could easily be reality, but a better reality than the one I’m currently in.

Take last night, for example. I dreamt that I was finally able to quit my job and be a full-time artist-person. I dreamt that I left work for the last time, went home, and then spent the time doing whatever the fuck I wanted because I didn’t have to get up and be at some office in the morning. I made plans to visit some friends from out of state. I painted something. (Time, being pretty much nonlinear and totally messed up  in dreams, somehow had gone back to morning.) I went out to a restaurant and met up with friends and celebrated not having to be anywhere important and dress professionally.

And while I know that, sure, if I was able to pull off the whole full-time creative person thing, that I would have obligations. I’d have to make money, for one thing, and that means working on new pieces of art and writing and whatnot. I know that I would have some obligations–like meetings and book signings and maybe even a convention booth or two.

But those aren’t necessarily everyday things. My job would be to create, not dress up and go to an office to answer phone calls. I could be happily at work at 3 in the morning in my pjs and kitty slippers, typing away–and I’d still be working.

So, when I woke up this morning, realizing that it was all in fact a dream, and that I really did have to get up to go to work this morning?

Yeah, yeah that really sucked.

Thanks brain.

March is “I Need To Do All the Things” Month

Well, I missed this month’s sign-ups. 😦 I was working all weekend and didn’t have time to jump on the internet once. Oh well. And even though I didn’t get much of the way of goals accomplished in February, I do think it helped me stay on track, at least a bit. It could have been a lot worse, really. (Like me not getting any writing done.)

So even if I’m not doing writemotivation, I’ll still keep you all apprised of what I’m working on.

This month, I’m breaking the goals up into manageable little chunks. Because the more I’m able to strike off, the happier I am. 😀 Ready? Let’s see what I have planned:

  • Print off the first part of Cloudy with a Chance of Satan
  • Read said first part of Cloudy (with optional note-taking)
  • Write 10k on Cloudy
  • Stretch Goal: Finish Cloudy. (Yeah, we’ll see if I get anywhere near this.)
  • Write all posts for the Ferret Blog that I’m responsible for through April 30th
  • Write the first draft of the Ferret Anthology story (the one that I never quite was able to do last month)
  • Stretch Goal: Write 10k on the Beacon Hills Reboot Part Two
  • Edit and send back the Teen Wolf fic I’m betaing
  • Finish reading A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones, awww yisssss)
  • Finish that X-Men commission you promised you’d do
  • Finish that tattoo design commission you also promised to do
  • Stretch Goal: Draw the Nuggetsune comics for Barenaked Critic
  • Clean the kitchen. Like, mop and bucket and industrial sized trash bags sort of clean.
  • Stretch Goal: Organize the art closet

Holy crap. That’s… kind of a lot. Yikes.

*crosses fingers* Wish me luck!
